Product Overview

VM1 veterinary vacuum positioning mat - blue polyurethane mat with vacuum valve and manual pump with connecting tube

The VM1 is a bead-filled vacuum positioning mat for immobilising canine and feline patients during surgery, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitation. The mat is shaped around the patient, then air is evacuated through the safety valve to lock the beads into a rigid, custom-fitted support.

The polyurethane exterior is radiolucent, so the patient stays positioned on the mat for ultrasound, DR, CT and MRI. Evacuation takes about 10 seconds, the formed shape holds for more than 72 hours, and two sizes — 100 × 60 cm and 60 × 40 cm — cover patients from feline to large canine. The mat is particularly suited to non-routine surgical positions such as ophthalmic procedures.

Key Features

  • Custom-fit immobilisation: the mat moulds to any recumbency and locks rigid under vacuum
  • Radiolucent construction: compatible with ultrasound, DR, CT and MRI positioning
  • Fast set-up: safety valve evacuates the mat in about 10 seconds
  • Long hold time: the formed shape is maintained for more than 72 hours
  • Durable polyurethane exterior that wipes clean between patients
  • Heat-insulating and heat-resistant surface
  • Two sizes: 100 × 60 cm and 60 × 40 cm

Clinical Applications

  • Surgery: stabilises the surgical site, supports the operative field and holds non-routine positions such as those required for ophthalmic surgery
  • Orthopaedics: immobilises the patient and limb for fracture management
  • Diagnostic imaging: holds dorsal, lateral or oblique recumbency for ultrasound, DR, CT and MRI without positioning aids in the beam
  • Rehabilitation: supports and stabilises patients with paralysis or limb dysfunction
  • Suitable for canine and feline patients

Workflow & Operating Notes

  • Inspect the mat before use, lay it on a flat surface and press gently to distribute the beads evenly
  • Connect the pump to the connecting tube and the tube to the valve on the mat; confirm every joint is secure
  • Evacuate a small amount of air so the mat is slightly firm but still easy to shape
  • Lay the patient on the mat, wrap the mat around the treatment area and shape it
  • Evacuate in stages — typically three to five cycles — adjusting the shape between cycles until the mat reaches full vacuum
  • Remove the pump and close the valve cover; after the procedure, open the valve to release the vacuum and clean the surface
  • Tighten the valve during evacuation to prevent air leakage; trim the nails of unanaesthetised feline patients to avoid puncturing the surface
  • Deflate the mat to its original state after use to reduce material tension and extend service life

Package Contents

  • 1 × VM1 vacuum positioning mat (100 × 60 cm or 60 × 40 cm, as ordered)

Why Choose the VM1

  • Workflow efficiency: one mat replaces sandbags, foam wedges and tape, and a single patient set-up carries from imaging through to surgery
  • Clinical accuracy: a rigid, custom-fitted support keeps the patient in the same position between views and during the procedure
  • Clinical accuracy: radiolucent construction keeps positioning aids out of the image
  • Practice economics: a reusable, wipe-clean polyurethane mat with a hold time of more than 72 hours serves surgery, imaging and rehabilitation

Warranty & Support

Warranty terms for the main unit are confirmed at the time of order. Probes, cuffs, cables and other accessories follow standard wear-item terms.
